i dont follow patterns anymore

PEACE! LOVE! UNITY! RESPECT!

Been going out to more raves and EDM type events over the course of the past year, and honestly it clears the concert scene. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good concert… but in this economy? Right… because why am I paying over $150-200 to go to an arena tour and sit in the nosebleeds…

Capitalism is stealing our youth and depriving us of experiencing fun at an affordable price. Maybe it’s because I grew up in SoCal, but the constant need to chase the next concert or event has become increasingly prevalent amongst people my age. But that’s what your 20s are about! Going out, having fun, working to save up for more long term investments- it’s everything that you were promised as long as you work hard- which is partly still true, but the political and economic state of the world is making it rather difficult to achieve these goals in this day and age. All this to say, I really have no idea what I am doing- I mean I do, I obviously have a sense of direction and long term goals as far as my crochet goes, but the uncertainty of our democracy and economy is kind of unsettling.. but at this point who really cares.

Because of this, I’ve turned over a new leaf- I’ve shifted my mindset and have worked towards bettering my life in other aspects, whether it be my social life or my creative endeavors. And I come on this blog once again to say, I have had a breakthrough in my design process. For frequent viewers of my social media, you would notice that my designs have shifted to be more focused on freeform crochet. Simply put, I don’t like following patterns anymore. I mean, I do, but not in the same way that I used to. I do appreciate the structure and general planning of newer designs, but I have been having issues just staring at lines of stitch abbreviations that I have to decode and follow to get the exact same piece that everyone else is making. Which, no shame to anyone that does this, I am very much an advocate for making whatever pieces you think would become staples in your wardrobe, I just was searching for a more unique approach to my crochet.

Luckily, freeform crochet (as the name suggests) gives you full creative freedom with whatever you make. It still retains the structure of traditional crochet in the sense that you do have to be aware of when and where to increase or decrease in order to maintain the flatness, however it also implements the freedom of using whatever stitches you want with an unpredictable end result. And bonus, you have a one of a kind piece that can’t be replicated. I definitely want to make a tutorial on how to get started with freeform crochet, so stay tuned on those socials for that. In the meantime, enjoy some pictures of me in my new freeform crochet top before going to a Hard Summer after.
