july recap: passion reignited
Happy August! I’m riding a high right now as you can clearly tell. BIG NEWS in the month of July, I hit 10K on Instagram! Try being an influencer for a day. I dare you.
No but in all seriousness, thank you! To anyone that has left a comment or like, or even purchased any of my patterns or shopped my website, thank you thank you thank you!
I think this month was a pretty transformative month for me- I spent a lot of time journaling and thinking about how I can evolve my crochet style. I had experimented with freeform crochet for a while, and honestly it was a really good break from traditional crocheting. I am the type of person to give up immediately when I know I am not good at a specific skill or hobby, so learning how to be okay with “imperfection” in my crochet has been a huge learning curve for me. I try to set goals for myself when it comes to crochet- nothing of numerical value, but more ways I can improve my craft and feel proud of the art that I produce. Being so public about a hobby is not an easy feat, especially if it is a creative hobby that you feel so deeply attached to. Numbers can be so detrimental to your mental health and of course that is something out of my control, so I always try my best to stay in the headspace that my art is my art, and no one can take that away from me. If the video flops, it flops- I’m not gonna harp on it and be bitter that it didn’t go viral or get any recognition.
As much as I say that though, it’s hard not to care. Imagine putting in work for a project you’re genuinely passionate about, only for it to not get the recognition you think it deserved. That’s not to say that the work you put in isn’t enough or bad, it’s just the result of an algorithm working overtime. I’ve learned over the years to not care so much about the algorithm, since it’s already oversaturated with millions of people trying to get their big break or their viral moment. Which is totally okay for me, because I definitely have reaped the benefits of going viral. At the end of the day, I’m proud of the work I put out and that’s all that matters. Here’s to more crochet and more milestones in the future!
